The Executive Committee of the World Masters Sport gathered in Malmö, Sweden for a strategic meeting with JTA during the prestigious WTT Smash tournament to work with World Masters Sport on its vision, strategy and roadmap for the future. Welcomed by Board member and ITTF President Petra Sörling in her hometown, the Executive Committee led by President Sergii Bubka, experienced inspiring days together.

The discussions were engaging and forward-looking, with both organisations sharing ideas on how to inspire people of all ages to remain active and involved in sport. Central themes included creating pathways for participation at every stage of life, highlighting role models across generations, and leveraging international events to showcase the values of health, community, and purpose.

Adding to the significance of the gathering, World Masters Sport President Sergii Bubka had the honor of conducting the official coin toss for the men’s match, symbolizing the organisation’s close connection with all different sports, including Table Tennis: “It was wonderful to be back in Malmö and to visit WTT Smash. We had a very productive meeting and strategic workshop with our members from the Executive Committee and JTA helping us to outline the future roadmap of the organisation. I want to express my sincere gratitude to Petra Sörling for her warm welcome, generous hospitality, and gracious hosting during our time in Malmö.”

The meeting proved to be a fruitful exchange of perspectives and strategies according to David Eades, Vice-President of World Masters Sport: “This is a very exciting time for World Masters Sport. We recognise that Masters athletes want competition and high standard venues; but they also look for great places to visit and opportunities to build a healthy sociable lifestyle. These are the key determinants in our evolving strategy to grow the masters movement and raise awareness of the value of physical activity. I think our Malmö workshop has set us on the path to a bigger and better vision.”

Both World Masters Sport and JTA emphasized their shared vision: promoting lifelong sport as a source of joy, health, and inspiration for all generations.
