World Masters Sport Statement

Jun 4, 2025 | Community, Events, Sports, Taipei 2025, World Masters Sport

The World Masters Games in Taipei and New Taipei City brought together 26,000 participants in 35 different sports across two weeks.

The World Masters Sport stipulates very clearly that participants who take part do so as individuals; they do not represent a country, club, team or federation.

World Masters Sport also insists that there will be no use of national flags or national anthems during any of the official ceremonies, from Welcoming and Farewell Ceremonies to the awarding of medals.

The mission of World Masters Sport is to promote lifelong competition, friendship and understanding between mature adults, regardless of age, gender, race, religion or sport status.

World Masters Sport does not have control over the social media posts of any participants. Nor can World Masters Sport control what individual participants wear during their stay in the host city.

Participants at the World Masters Games register to compete directly with the Organising Committee of each Games, not with World Masters Sport. It is a decision for the host city and country to determine who is welcome and eligible for a visa, if required.

This differs significantly from elite sports events, such as European or World Championships, or the Olympic Games.
