World Masters Sport continues its development journey following the Board’s approval of a new strategic framework and roadmap that will guide the organisation’s next phase of growth. With a strong focus on sport for life, health, and inclusion without limits, the organisation is strengthening its organisational capacity to support the delivery of these ambitions and to further unlock the potential of the global Masters sport movement.

For more than four decades, World Masters Sport has championed lifelong participation in sport and created international platforms where athletes of all abilities and backgrounds can compete beyond traditional age boundaries. As active lifestyles, healthy ageing, and community wellbeing become increasingly important global priorities, the organisation is positioning itself to play an even stronger role in connecting sport, health, and society.

As part of this next phase, World Masters Sport is pleased to announce that Thomas Buza will join the team starting in April. The role has been established to support the implementation of the organisation’s strategic framework and to strengthen coordination across governance, management, and administration. Working closely with the Board, the President, the CEO, and the wider World Masters Sport team, the position will contribute to driving key development initiatives and ensuring the effective and sustainable delivery of the organisation’s strategic roadmap.

President Sergii Bubka commented:

“World Masters Sport has adopted a bold vision for the future, and delivering on it requires strong teamwork and clear coordination across the organisation. This way of working – with close cooperation between the President, the Board, the CEO, and the administration–  is common across many International Federations and within the Olympic Movement. Strengthening our capacity in this way allows us to work together more effectively and unlock the full potential of our organisation.”

Thomas Buza, from Sweden, brings extensive experience in international sports administration and event organisation. He served for eight years as Secretary General of the Swedish Table Tennis Association and has a background in communication, design, and digital development, combined with broad experience in the planning and delivery of sporting events.

CEO Jens Holm added:

“World Masters Sport has made significant progress in recent years thanks to the dedication of our Board and staff. By strengthening our organisational capacity and working closely alongside our existing team, we are creating the conditions needed to deliver on our strategic roadmap and continue developing the global Masters sport movement.”

This step reflects World Masters Sport’s commitment to reinforcing its organisational structures in line with its strategic direction and to building the capacity required to realise the organisation’s full global potential and further develop the international Masters sport movement.
