Record registrations: already over 24’000 athletes joining World Masters Games

Apr 2, 2026 | Kansai 2027, World Masters Games

The World Masters Games 2027 Kansai has received a record number of registrations with more than one year to go to the Games. We are truly grateful for the enthusiasm shown by people around the world, following the difficult decision to postpone the Games due to the pandemic.

To date, we have received 24,000 registrations, including 10,000 international and 14,000 domestic participants, which reflects the remarkable level of interest in these Games.

President Sergii Bubka shares his excitement: “This is not just a number. It is showing the power of Masters sport and the passion of the growing global community of athletes who refuse to let age define their limits. Sport connects generations, cultures and people, for better health, both physically and mentally. At World Masters Sport, our mission is to make sport accessible and meaningful at every stage of life, and this amazing number confirms we are moving in the right direction. Kansai 2027 is already shaping up to be a milestone moment for the global Masters community.”

To meet this incredible demand, the Organising Committee is currently working to expand the number of available slots in several sports: Swimming, Track & Field, Badminton, Half Marathon, Karate, Golf and others where slots are filling up fast.

They are making every effort to accommodate all wishes and to find the right balance across schedules, planning, days of competition, and travel arrangements. However, with such high demand, we acknowledge that it will not be possible to fulfil every request, and we appreciate the understanding and patience of all applicants.

We hope to welcome as many participants as possible, and this review process is expected to be completed by the end of May 2026. Updates on progress and revised capacity will be posted on the official website as they become available, and once adjustments are finalised, details about new participation opportunities will be shared promptly.
