Squash

Squash

Squash originated in the early 19th century at Harrow School in England, where students discovered that a punctured ball, which “squashed” against the wall, offered a more challenging and exciting game than traditional racquet sports.

The sport is played indoors on a four-walled court with two players (or four in doubles) taking turns to hit a small rubber ball against the front wall, making it difficult for the opponent to return before the ball bounces twice. Squash emphasizes speed, agility, strategy, and endurance, with points scored when an opponent cannot make a legal return.

Athlete Comments & Reviews

“Find the sport your body can do”

“It’s just about finding something you can physically do for your age”

“I do many sports so I can choose what my body is capable of”

“You have to keep moving, I had a new start after my new hips at 60-61 so I’ve got another 15 years at least hopefully. Luckily I do a lot of sailing as well, and swimming. So there are other sports if I can’t play tennis any longer but I love to keep going for as long as possible.”

“You just don’t want to leave”

“It’s impossible to let go, once you taste this adventure, when you come to these countries and compete and have these feelings and podium and everything. You just want it to continue.”
